New season / Nouvelle saison

Dear friends of music, Verdun, and friends of mine,

I’m writing to invite you to an exciting concert of orchestral music to be given in just under two weeks time, on May 23rd, at 7:30 pm at Église Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs in the heart of downtown Verdun.

This concert, presented by the Verdun Classical Music Society, will feature a 20-piece string orchestra with works by Mozart, Tchaikovsky, and Bartok, as well at the famous Piano Concerto in D Minor by J.S. Bach, under the direction of Ms. Dina Gilbert.

The highly talented group performers presenting this concert are all gifted young professionals from around Montreal who have enthusiastically embraced our mission to bring the fine arts to this community. The repertoire has been well chosen to both entertain and touch our spirits – children, families, and adults should all enjoy this concert equally!

Tickets are on sale for $12 at the Librairie de Verdun (4150 Wellington St), the office of NDSD, and will be available at the door on the evening of the concert. Children under the age 8 may enter for free. Proceeds will be contributed to the heritage and cultural project for the restoration of NDSD.

If you can’t make it, consider buying tickets for a friend, a struggling student, or just to help our cause! Feel free to print our poster and post it on your fridge or cubicle wall!

Hope to see you there!

Roland Graham

Thank you!

I would like to thank each and every one for attending our yesterday’s recital and making it such a success.

Your continued support is especially valuable and reassuring for us given the recent difficulties our program has had.

I would like to thank our regular listeners and also welcome many new friends who were in the audience last night.

Thank you for your patronage and generosity. Please don’t forget that our next concert will take place in two weeks, on Saturday, 19 December 2009.

And, of course, a very special thank you goes to our musicians. Elizabeth and Jonathan, thank you for this memorable performance! Hope to see you again in our series!

Program for today’s concert (6 Dec 2009)

Today’s concert is a piano recital shared by two fantastic young pianists.

Jonathan Tsay, of Texas (USA), who was originally booked to play this weekend, will play the epic Sonata for the Piano (B minor) by Franz Liszt.

He will be sharing his program with Elizabeth Schumann, who will compliment the Liszt with a selection of masterpieces by Frederick Chopin, including the Third Piano Sonata, the Polonaise Op. 42, and a selection of several concert Études.

This will be a rare tour de force presentation of romantic piano repertoire, and as always, it will be offered free! Please come out and enjoy this very special occasion.

Doors open at 7pm.

Upcoming opportunity for capable choral singers

Dear Friends of Music at St. Clement’s

This note is to announce an upcoming opportunity for capable choral singers to partake in a special event in the liturgical Calendar of St. Clement’s church. I am working on putting together a special service on the 29th of November (advent Sunday), which will predominantly feature sacred choral works by an array of excellent composers.

Please get back to me if you are interested or if you can put me in touch with anyone else you feel might be appropriate for such a project. Music reading ability and experience with sacred choral are a must. This will be a fundraiser for the Manna food bank, last year we gave them $500. As a preview, I’m including a sound clip of one of the pieces we’ll be singing. I’m certain you’ll enjoy it!

Sincerely,

Roland Graham
